PIN Management

This page explains how Berkeley integrates with its processor partners in order to offer PIN Management functionality.

Note that PIN management can be significantly different in the U.S and Canada as this process falls under different regulatory requirements and is bound by limitations by Canadian merchant POS systems.

Canada

Via IVR

  1. Call the Toll Free number assigned to your card program
  2. Press 1 to initiate the PIN retrieval process
  3. Enter your 16 digit card number and press the pound (#) key
  4. Enter your 6 digit telephone access code
  5. Press 3 to retrieve your PIN
  6. Press 1 to proceed and accept any applicable fees
  7. Enter your Date of Birth in the following numerical format - DD MM YYYY followed by the pound key (#). Note: you must use 2 digits for both the day and month and 4 digits for the year. E.g. if your date of birth is January 1, 2000, then you will enter 01 01 2000#
  8. Press 1 to confirm your Date of Birth
  9. Your existing PIN will be read back to you

Via API

  1. Call the Retrieve PIN endpoint
  2. Use the Get Account Details endpoint to find and include the Account ID and last four digits of the card associated in the request
  3. A successful response will return the four digit PIN associated to the card

Change PIN Instructions

Via IVR

  1. Make a call to the toll-free IVR number assigned to your card program

  2. Follow the instructions within the IVR

  3. After changing the PIN using the IVR, the cardholder must now reprogram the Card Chip PIN by either going to a POS system or an ATM

    1. At a POS terminal

      1. Make a purchase at any POS system by inserting your card chip into the machine
      2. When prompted to enter your PIN, use the original PIN that was set up previous to Step 1
      3. The old PIN will result in a successful transaction and a response will be sent from the network to update the Card Chip PIN to the new one created in the IVR
      4. The transaction will reprogram the PIN on the card chip, and all future transactions at any terminal (POS/ATM) will use the new PIN created in the IVR
        OR
    2. At an ATM

      1. Visit an ATM and insert your card
      2. When prompted to enter your PIN, use the new PIN that was set up in the IVR
      3. The ATM will send a request for PIN validation to Carta, who will respond with a success message and return a response to update the Card Chip PIN to the new one created in the IVR
      4. Complete the transaction and all future transactions at any terminal (POS/ATM) will use the new PIN created in the IVR
